Water Powered Technologies supports World Water Day on the 22nd March 2018. The day is about focusing attention on the importance of water. The theme for World Water Day 2018 is ‘Nature for Water’ – exploring nature-based solutions to the water challenges we face in the 21st century. Damaged ecosystems affect the quantity and quality of water available for human consumption.
TODAY, 2.1 BILLION PEOPLE LIVES WITHOUT SAFE DRINKING WATER AT HOME, AFFECTING THEIR HEALTH, EDUCATION AND LIVELIHOODS.
66% OF NATURAL WETLANDS HAVE DISAPPEARED SINCE 1990
80% OF WASTEWATER FLOWS BACK INTO THE RIVERS AND OCEANS WITHOUT BEING TREATED
1.9 BILLION PEOPLE LIVE IN AREAS WHERE WATER IS ALREADY SCARCE
Sustainable Development Goal 6 commits the world to ensuring that everyone has access to safe water by 2030, and includes targets on protecting the natural environment and reducing pollution.
How can we reduce floods, droughts and water pollution?
By using solutions we already find in nature.
At Water Powered Technologies, the environment and a sustainable water supply is at the heart of what we do. We produce Zero Energy Pumps that don’t use any electricity or fossil fuels, just the natural power of flowing water. It’s a 100% green way of pumping water! And our zero energy pumps only use surface water. This is important because wells and boreholes take water from underground aquifers and because humans are depleting more than half of the world’s 37 largest aquifers at unsustainable rates, cities in areas of severe water stress are running out of water. Even if we changed our ways now, aquifers will still take decades or even centuries to replenish. We must start moving away from ground water extraction and start using surface water in a sustainable way.
